English

My mind works in very strange ways... That is one of the main reasons I created this page; so I could have an outlet for the odd-ball things that just seem to pop into my head. As a result, you have some fairly entertaining things to read.
I hope you enjoy today's foray into the English language.

This all started rather innocently... I was at the local Christian Radio station (101.3 Renegade Radio) where I volunteer Dj, and my program director was talking on the phone to someone and the conversation centered around making a CD for this person. My program director kept saying something to the effect of "Just give me the CD's that I made for you and I'll just burn them onto one CD so you don't have a bunch lying around." The thing that struck me as odd was the word 'Burn' used as a replacement for the word 'Record'. Then I thought about another friend of mine who told someone else that they would take a CD that was lent to him and "rip" it. The person lending him the CD started having serious second thoughts about letting him borrow the CD, until my friend told this person that "Ripping" a CD simply meant to record it in a specific computer format so it could be played on computers. Until he told her what "Ripping" was, she thought he was seriously going to tear the CD in two pieces!

We have entered an era where the language changes almost as fast, if not faster, then the technology advances. 50 years ago, the English language was beginning to grow, but it was still a relatively simple language. A byte was something your dog did to the mailman and it was spelled with an 'I'. Everyone had a laptop, but it disappeared when you stood up. A microwave was when you acknowledged someone with a small hand gesture. A chip was something you ate, and Tofu was still called 'Lard'.

When I actually stop to think about it, it kinda scares me to think about where the world is headed. If you don't keep up with the latest advances, you will be obsolete in a matter of months!

I almost wish I could go back to the "good ol' days", when you didn't have to worry about having the newest cellular phone, or the fastest CPU. Then again, I realize how far we have come with the medical advances and I realize that I would never want to go back.

Sometimes, I think I think too much!!
